UST - Week One - 7/20 at 4pm

The first match of the tourney will be held this weekend, on Saturday at 4pm Central (9pm UTC).

Read through the information about this match, as well as the gameplay mechanics for Unvanquished.

Our tournament/registration thread is here. If your name isn't there and you want to be playing for KoR, post in this thread.

Currently, the following players can make it this weekend. P̶l̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ ̶a̶d̶d̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶n̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶b̶e̶l̶o̶w̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶/̶o̶r̶ ̶r̶e̶p̶l̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶r̶e̶a̶d̶ ̶b̶e̶f̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶F̶r̶i̶d̶a̶y̶ ̶a̶f̶t̶e̶r̶n̶o̶o̶n̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶. (I'll try to be more organised later weeks and push it up)

This will be our team (y u maek me play) for this weekend:

milk
brrrr
monk
pbhead
lae

I'll be putting your names in a RNG if more than 5 of you can make it. KoR members (and ex-KoR) get priority, though.

Let's try to get some practice in tomorrow night between 5-8pm Central and Saturday morning as well. Our server is up at knightsofreason.net:27960 (Knights of Reason Training Server).

The match itself:
4 games, alternating between humans and aliens. Max 45 minutes each.
A win equals 3 points, a tie equals 1 point, a loss equals 0 points.
Whoever has the most points wins the match.

I'll volunteer for you guys if you need an extra. It's 11am for me.

I noticed this though

What does it mean by registered? is there somewhere I have to sign up for you guys besides here?

11 PM UTC is 7 PM EST... I think you mean 9 PM utc?

blarg. I probably could have done 7 pm EST...

Looking at the thread it does say 21:00 which is 9pm and not 11 which would be 23:00

I believe that only means I have to create a thread on the Unv forum (which I'll do later today or tomorrow) with a list of people who will play for KoR. It's probably just to keep people from joining in lategame I guess.

Pbhead wrote:11 PM UTC is 7 PM EST... I think you mean 9 PM utc?

Yep. I was obviously in a hurry, lol. Edited. Does that mean you might be able to make it to later games if timing is appropriate?

I can play if it's around 12 GMT hence it looks like i'm out.
Also, please read:
http://unvanquished.net/news/63-gamepla ... vanquished
I'm starting to seriously doubt you'll win the first game against a clan of newbies, because those newbies probably have more experience than KoR for unvanquished's new gameplay.

After some rearranging, I should be able to make 5 pm.

I am also up for some practices stuff, because we may need it.

Also, whats our Voice chatting situation?

I've updated the original post and registered everyone.

Our tournament/registration thread is here.

Let's try to get some practice in tomorrow night between 5-8pm Central and Saturday morning as well, probably on the Dev & Testing Server. I'll try to get a server up tonight though, but no promises.

Re: UST - Week One - 7/20 at 4pm

Since we have 5 people. (well, in theory)

Been thinking.

What we probably should do is have some sort of strategy.

We definitely need to stick together to some degree... with one person in the back defending the base... and of the 4 that go out, one should probably have a con-kit to set up forward bases/drills... the other 3 can defend him until the expansion has a few turrets/tubes, and then they can all magnificently suicide on the enemies base structures.

Or something.

In most maps there is just enough build points generation (especially if you are doing things right) to allow one person to build constantly. Should they be? maybe. Hummy bases/expansions are basically immune to S1 aliens, assuming you are doing things right.... Cant really say the same for s1 alien expansions, which really seem more vunerable.

And of course, making easy to kill buildings... is a great way to end up feeding the enemy to the next stage... and you lose the resources.

No refunds for partially built buildings too!

ALso. does anyone have any good binds they would suggest? holding X down makes it hard to press D at the same time... thoughts on this issue?

Go into options and bind sprint to shift like every other fps does. shift is default bound to walk which makes you move slower and how often do you want that happening? I don't think you'll miss the ability to move slower.

Re: UST - Week One - 7/20 at 4pm

when would we do some practice? if it's on tomorrow night then surely we should at least play together once.
easiest way to do that is if we played at the same time we would tomorrow, anyone up for it?

*p.s*
i don't have a mic, but i do have teamspeak, if we were going to use it.

I mentioned training in the OP starting a little later than when the match is going to be, but you guys are free to start training earlier. I just won't be able to make it earlier than 5 because I'll be at work.

And yeah, we'll use teamspeak.

Edit: BTW if I'm going to preemptively vote myself as the builder on hummies because I suck at using guns.

Re: UST - Week One - 7/20 at 4pm

are we going to assign "roles"?
for example, Builder, Attacker, defender, scout. stuff like that?
if we have 5 player teams, i guess it would be something like 2 main attckers that do all the enemy base attacking, then maybe a supportive person who does things like scout/decoy, then someone that's like an attacker but hang's back in a supportive type of role incase things go bad and the 2 main attackers get ganked. then obviously the builder.

i only spent like 2 minutes thinking this out, so it's not exactly all that clear :P

@razor it's an FPS that has its roots in tremulous (but isn't exactly like tremulous). Alien/human classes and quite a few of the maps are the same, but much of the gameplay mechanics/balance/models are different.

@milk sounds like a good idea.

I might be available... I'm currently trying to get Unvanquished to run reliably, because .16-osx seems to have issues. I'm working on building from source at the moment, but it's slow.

Edit: Build is working, I'm definitely game as a substitute. Probably won't have much to do tomorrow otherwise, since I'm donating blood that day.

You need to be compiling the v0.17.0 tag of Unvanquished to play on official (and tourney) servers. Team's set now but everyone is welcome to spectate (and maybe substitute).

\o/ clearly we needed more practice playing with each other. Playing with bots isn't that great (for anything other than getting acquainted with maps and bases), though, so I'm not sure how to go about it.

I only have Lord Anubis on steam. I can't join the KoR group on steam either. (Membership by invite only)
I've also got a free account so I can't start discussions in groups or add people.

There's always the option of IRC but IRC is kinda pointless if no one knows how to use an IRC client. (It's basically an old-school instant messenger pretty much, except you join chat rooms, but 1v1 chat is still possible)

Im using Ubuntu's font. I got it because it supposedly supported a wide range of language characters and its addictive 'l' shape.
